We are paying the company's own taxes

Wow.  I went to the IRS website and the definition of what an independent contractor is NOT is clear as day:

"You are not an independent contractor if you perform services that can be controlled by an employer (what will be done and how it will be done). This applies even if you are given freedom of action. What matters is that the employer has the legal right to control the details of how the services are performed."

Even though it appears that we are employees in legal terms, OE's made up definition of "independent contractor" saves them big time on taxes.  We are paying our employer's share of the SS/Medicare tax on top of our own. Very cunning!!

I am not a lawyer but if the definitions of "employee" and "independent contractor" are as simple and straightforward as found on the IRS website, OE could be in for some serious legal trouble.
